Commemorative Plate of NHI on Rizal's first monument in the Philippines

This is the commemorative marker of the Philippine Historical Institute in 1961 recognizing the first monument of Jose Rizal in the Philippines which is located at the heart of Daet, Camarines Norte.
Please take note that Lt. Col. Ildefonso Alegre and Lt. Col. Ildefonso Sanz of the Revolutionary Army led the construction of this monument which was unvailed on December 30, 1898.
It's a co-incidence that my father's birth was on December 30.

Dominador Arevalo-Alegre

Hi All!

I am Noel Cornel Alegre from Daet, Camarines Norte. I'm the 3rd son of the the six siblings of Dominador Arevalo Alegre. My mother is Elena Madi Cornel.

Just as you are looking for the lost Alegre kins, I am also interested to know the rest of the Alegre families in the Philippines. Here in Camarines Norte, the Alegre are known through Lt. Col. Ildefonso Alegre of the revolutionary army who, together with Lt. Col. Ildefonso Sanz, constructed the first monument of Jose Rizal in the country. This monument was constructed two years after the death of our national hero (see picture).

Curious

Hi,

I'm not sure if anyone is going to read this but I was curious about my background/roots whatever you wish to call it. I know my mothers side pretty well, but sadly not my father. Never met my grandfather, the Alegre side. My grandmother and father died before my I reached the age of wanting to know further about where I came from. I'm not really in touch with that side of the family other than special occasions ie a birthday or holidays so asking questions isn't really on my mind. I've never seen a clear or in focus picture of my grandfather. I've read my grandmothers self written bio before she died but it didn't shed too much light on my grandfather other than that his name was Carlos Alegre, he's Ilocano which makes me half and he died before I was born. I guess I'm just looking for any insight on where I come from. Any info would be great. Thanks

Carlos Alegre (yes I was named after him, which makes me naturally prone to know more)

Alegre Clan Reunion 2007 Paoay, IN

Hi Everyone,

It was fun! I was surprise when I met the Alegre clan during the get together and reunion held in Paoay, Ilocos Norte last May 6, 2007. I never expected a huge crowds of my relatives and I never thought it will turn out big, definitely, I was amazed. My family and I is from Sta. Rosa, Laguna and we rarely go to Paoay for a vacation, sometimes it's once a year or two and stayed there for 3 to 4 days only. After the reunion, I can say, I will visit and take my vacation again in Paoay. Thank you to Uncle Elpidio and family for sponsoring and organizing this celebration of ours. I am hoping for the next celebration.

By the way I am the youngest son of Mr and Mrs Pepito Alegre, who is the eldest son of mr. Emilio Dadubo and Victoria Alegre - sister of Filomena Alegre and one of the daugther of Procopio Alegre.

I have a copy of some of the pictures during the reunion taken in my camera. Please email me and get in touch with me thru my email address ronniealegre@gmail.com.

Let us see each other again on the next get together. Goodluck and God Bless you all!
Regards,

Ronnie Alegre
son of Mr. & Mrs. Pepito Alegre

Update: ALEGRE REUNION MAY 2007 PAOAY

From: Elpidio Alegre
Subject: Update
To: Pat Alegre

To all Alegre Clan,
Well, the day is almost here, We will soon travel home to Paoay and renew our relationship as a clan. It is my fervent wish that each of us earn and learn values of our history, roots and ancestry for us to cherish and treasure, and hopefully pass it on to our younger generation so that they too cannot forget but remember who we are as an Alegre. As we gather as a family, let us put our hearts and mind even for just a moment, Peace and Harmony, this is a big moment for all of us to savor, enjoy and be proud. All of us represent our loved ones, we are now the source of their legacy, let us all make them proud of us.
I'm looking forward for a great time with everyone, let me just convey to you my deep and sincere gratitude for all the cooperation, dedication and support you have given towards this noble and honorable deed that we all worked so very hard, it is a very proud and historic event for the Alegre Clan. It is also my ardent desire to continue on with this tradition that we have started and with our unity and commitment, WE COULD DO IT AGAIN. GOD BLESS US ALL. Many thanks.
With all my love----Elpidio A. Alegre

Coffee Time With Uncle Ben

This message was originally posted via email:

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life. Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups - porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite - telling them to help themselves to the coffee.

When all the students had a cup ofcoffee in hand, the professor said: "If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In most cases it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink.

What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups... And then you began eyeing each other's cups. Now consider this: Life is the coffee; the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, and the type of cup we have does not define, nor change the qualityof Life we live. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee God has provided us." God brews the coffee, not the cups..... Enjoy your coffee!

"The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything." Live simply.

Love generously.

Care deeply.

Speak kindly.

Leave the rest to GOD.

You are the miracle, my friend,

Your life either shines a light - or casts a shadow.

Have a wonderful day !!
